Objectives someone practicing karate is very diverse. There is practicing karate for self defense purposes, some are to achieve better physical condition, while some are to win the medals and awards. If you include people who choose one of the three reasons above, then you are not fit to practice in Shotokan Karate. Shotokan is more likely to practice karate as a philosophy.
Shigeru Egami not always keeps the Shotokan Karate tournament or competition, and the like even today. Apparently this is what truly distinguishes the Shotokan Karate.
